    Ventless rear spine M1915 model

For some reason it's in my mind that Field Artillery helmets had ventless spines (because they were mounted) and Foot Artillery helmets had vents (because they walked).

Real or fake - what do you think about this chinstrap?

I believe we are at the point where a properly done reproduction is indistinguishable from a real one. I saw some reproductions from Czechoslovakia over 20 years ago that were perfect. Aged and everything.

Current happenings in the lovely city of Philadelphia, PA

The United States has truly abandoned the rule of law, from the top down. We have no borders, the Department Of Justice and especially the FBI are corrupt beyond redemption. A fish rots from the head.

    Camo Stalhelm

I like the pattern and the paint, a very attractive helmet. HOWEVER, look at the paint around the holes for the liner pins. The paint runs right up to the edge of the hole. If this was authentic, there would be a ring of original paint or patina where they covered it. So, no go.

Beautiful. Real Imperial Russian pieces are very hard to come by.

KAGGR #1 Grenadier and Fusilier Batl officers miters

Breathtaking! The very essence of Imperial Germany. I thought I was doing well to get the enlisted versions. And now you torture us with this!

My latest: J.A. Bowman. "The Pickelhaube"

They are not highly regarded these days, but when they were published there wasn't too much information about pickelhauben out there if you didn't read German. There are still some bits of good info to be gleaned from them.

    J z P helmet at Weitze

My vote is that it was a blued helmet that has been polished bright.

    Gewehr 98

The extended magazine - which is the correct term, although it is commonly called the trench magazine - was issued during the war. It’s a fairly scarce accessory.

    Gewehr 98

Love the Gewehr 98. Nice examples have always been very hard to find. Bought my first one in1972 and still have it. Here are a couple more I've picked up over the years. The tricked out one is a DWM 1916, the other is by Sauer, also in 1916.

    Things That Go Bang

I primarily collect firearms, helmets are accessories in my world. Took a couple of pieces out for a family portrait. The 08/15 is a Spandau 1918, the Tankgewehr is of course by Mauser 1918.

The funeral of the Kaiser's wife

I have a Garde officer's helmet wearing the haarbusch that still has the black netting over the cockades.

    Please rate the originality.

Original pieces, I don't see any connection to St. Mihiel. The red stripe on the sleeve signifies that the wearer has been discharged from the Army. If you look on US ebay in the US WW1 section you will see many uniforms. You can learn a lot just by looking there. Run any prospective purchase by...
