    How many returned?

Yes, we should not forget the pain they endured.

    How many returned?

They are in field gear. I suppose only the Ueberzug is missing, but they did not want to hide the Totenkopf for the picture. With the Ueberzug, no Kolpack and no Haarbusch. Such coloured accessories would have not been welcome anyway on the feldgrau background.

    5th Volunteer Battalion Royal Scots

Very nice and interesting. I knew nothing about the Volunteer Battalion of Royal Scots, although.... I used to live in Leith and run around Leith Links.

References images for Haubes from Mulhouse/Mülhausen regiments

You are absolutely right, Steve, but why? Camouflage, okay, it makes sense, but why only at JzP5?

    Bavarian EM Chevauleger

Superb helmet, Sandy! Below is its brother-in-arms. I don't mean to hijack your post, but stress as others did that the marking for those regiments was special, more explicit than the usual acronyms. Congratulations.

New Discussion Forum Museums and Battlefields

I start with one that does not exist anymore. This is an old postcard. The museum was located in Les Ponts-de-Cé, next to Angers, France (and only 40 miles away from Saumur, where the famous Cavalry museum discussed in the previous thread is). The Imperial German collection looks amazing. Where...

    Saumur-France-Musée de la Cavalerie

Kris, if you do not completely love being stuck in traffic jams there is another solution: ride a bike. I was in France last week for work and I also had to collect mine in England. I left Paris on Eurostar at 7:00 am, arrived in London at 9:00 and at the garage at 11:00. I was back in Paris...

No more details on this ceremony. 1920's? von Mackensen on the right.

What do you think about this Grenadier helmet ?

I agree with what has been written. Below is a 1860 model revamped after 1867. It has, most likely, seen the Franco-Prussian war in 1870-71. The helmet has been rotated by 180 degrees. You can see under the eagle the stitching that used to be hidden by the rear spine. The holes whereby the...

We are indeed referring to the same person! Amazing collection and knowledge, and an obsession with the condition of items.

    Parade plumes/ trichters

Yes. Very well done. Didier Lainé's comprehensive catalogue also indicates Haarbusch wearing regiments, in a rectangular box. No box = no plume.

    IR 94?

Besides the absence of arms on the eagle, this is not even an officer plate. See the non-voided crown and crude details. Holes to affix the star should be on a vertical line. Hence there is no proof this helmet ever belonged to a "Fuerst" regiment. Excellent copies of those cockades exist. The...
