    Any Hessen Pickelhaubes for Sale?

At an auction in France last week, a nice infantry M95 (no marking, just a date) went for 1450 euro, and an M15 for 1500 euro (25% fees to be added). More surprising, a complete RBA18 (JR 115) in fair to good condition did not sell, which rarely happens !

Spiked Helmet Sign or STS, is a ECG sign?

No apologies, Louis! Great that you could find this recent publication. I had missed it. And I had forgotten that the beautiful example shown is from Tony's cupboard...

Spiked Helmet Sign or STS, is a ECG sign?

I know this sign, Louis, and I had already posted a note about it on the forum. The original publication did not mention it as being "ominous", though, and, principally, had illustrated it with a real Pickelhaube, not a fake like here... I will try to retrieve it. This being said, Circulation is...

    New collection with a Tshapka

Yes, these are correct if of the correct length. Do you have an answer to my question about metal fittings: brass or gold painted gray steel ?

You will also notice that the two chinscales are different. The left one (when facing the helmet) is correct, but the other one is not. There is a striated ring that should not be present, and it seems the metal has been torn to fit the M91 post. I am not aware of this model of chinscale, that I...

    New collection with a Tshapka

If the eagle is magnetic, then you have a regular M1915 Tschapka, as Tony wrote. On these, all steel fittings were painted or chemically treated to be (pewter) gray in color. Guard eagles often missed the central badge, like yours. Your pictures do not show the color of metal fittings very...

    Hesse LR115 pickelhaube for review

Would that be 8. J. P. ? As you know, because of shortage of metal helmets, some Jaeger zu Pferde also wore leather Pickelhauben. Principally, Prussian Dragoner and occasionally infantry helmets. Therefore, you sometimes encounter such helmets with JzP markings, including 8 J P. I have never...

Help on this Prussian Dragoner Pickelhaube

There is something wrong with the eagle plate, which looks over-sized, or at least ill-fitting. One of the inside pictures shows one attachment of this plate, and this one is definitively wrong: long flat prongs going through an eyelet. Is this a repair? How is the other attachment (hidden on...

    Hesse LR115 pickelhaube for review

It looks excellent, Charles. Is this the original cockade? It looks quite new. What are the markings? It does not look like the typical RBA18 model (war time). JR115? Difficult to make out as the picture shows strong light reflection and is overexposed.

The plate is in fact for a Garde Ulanen regiment. The two holes were made to affix the Suum Cuique center, missing here (as is often the case, frequently from the origin).

    Mecklenburgisches Füsilier-Regiment Kaiser Wilhelm Nr.90

Thank you, Pierrick. This D18 helmet is indeed a sensation. It does not come from the collector world. It was offered (as a "Prussian officer helmet"...) to an antique dealer in payment for a furniture appraisal he had done in a private household in the USA. It is close to perfect and amazingly...
