    DRP?

Greetings all! I recently encountered, somewhere in a Facebook group, a Pickelhaube cover stamped "DRP". The DR would probably be Dragoner Regiment, but what could the P stand for?

Unlike James I wouldn't confine "we need to see more" to helmets only :D

Lost the leader of the pack....

Kris, I'm so sorry for you! I know all too well how it feels, and how empty the place is... But maybe you'll catch a glimpse of her every now and then out of the corner of your eye, or hear a familiar sound that's gone before you realise what it is, or a familiar smell that faintly surrounds you...

    Disproportional amount of "Jansens"

Remarkable, John! I wonder whether there might be a difference between the two sides of the big pond?

    Disproportional amount of "Jansens"

A silly question, that for some reason popped up in my silly mind. In the days of my large Pickelhauben collection in the 1980's/early 1990's, I had a disproportionally large number of helmets made/stamped by Julius Jansen in Strassbourg. If I remember correctly, one or possibly even two (!) out...

those magnificent men in there flying machines

Having seen "Those magnificent men in their flying machines" as a 21-years old for the first time in January 1967, certainly betrays my age too! I lived in Australia then and was on my way by train from Brisbane to Melbourne. In Sydney I had to change trains, with many many hours to spare...

    Reuss

I won't hold it against you, Sandy (wide grin!) - as a Dutchman I'm simply your friendly next door neighbour :D ! I understand even the Germans having problems with the various kinds of old handwriting - I myself am already happy to be able to read the printed Frakturschrift which, when it...

Bloody Germans confuse the living daylights out of us all, Sandy, with depressing regularity :( :D!

    Reuss

Gentlemen, it is confusing (at least to me) - the letters of the alphabet in old cursive handwriting, especially in German, are often difficult to identify. I'm pretty sure though (but not certain!) that in the handwritten documents posted by Philippe, the name is indeed Bickel - not Rickel...

Bruno, you might want to add an officer's helmet for "only" (grin) 8000 euros - that's not even 10,000 dollars :D! https://www.weitze.com/militaria/77/Reuss_Pickelhaube_fuer_einen_Offizier_im_7_Thueringischen_Infanterie_Regiment_Nr_96_II_Bataillon__283077.html

Wouldn't look bad as a purely decorative piece. I deeply, forcefully and profoundly dislike the paper label though - that's where I draw the line between an honest replica and a deliberate fake.
