Hi Peter, I'd not noticed the stitching, I think you're right though. I think we see more Tropical Helmets (luckily for you :) ) because British, German or US servicemen brought them home after their service abroad. Africans wearing a fez or Tarbusch didn't leave Africa very often so neither...

I think the reason you've had no response here is because they don't look German mostly. The far left one with the anchor does not look like any German cockade I have seen (naval or otherwise). Naval cockades did not have anchors on them. The second left could be JzP 13, or a Prussian officer...
