    With Shako and Sabre

Nice image Markgraf, my vote would be Telegrapher Battalion 2-6. To me it looks like there is a script letter T on his shoulderstrap with an unknown battalion number below. Ron the 1873 artillery swords were used by a wide variety of mounted, non-cavalry units. Larmo

    The Forgotten Faschinenmesser

Greetings All.. In my sixth installment of this little exercise regarding Faschinenmesser, this time let’s examine a few interesting French types. As I have stated with previous listings, this is by no means comprehensive as to type and variety. These four discussed here merely represent the...

    Early marine

Hi Joe What a wonderful image, I agree, it is well before 1880 and likely a Prussian Marine. Sergio Semino has an officers example of the Tschako for sale which he dates as 1861, http://www.militaria-online.de/artikelnr_1935" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , it is priced well...

M1860 Pickelhaube, is this for real?

Hi, thanks for posting the details on your helmet, I really enjoy the history on these old things. If I can add one more comment, to find an honest 1860 pattern pickelhaube in any condition is difficult. To find one with a history is a big plus.. Larmo

Pre WWI or Saxon child's artillery helmet or Baden? 1890s

Hi Lucky you, that's an original 1871 pattern kugelhelm worn by a cannonier in the 12th Saxon Field Artillery Regiment. It just needs a little TLC to put humpty-dumpty back to sorts again. Interesting that the spike base has been moved to place the ventilator hole front to back rather than...

M1860 Pickelhaube, is this for real?

Cool...that's what it should look like, the story is certainly plausible, now it's just a question of price vs condition, there may be a chance of unit markings however faint on the neckguard. Good Luck :thumb up: Larmo

M1860 Pickelhaube, is this for real?

Hi It looks proper to me, although a small one... as you say, it's missing a lot of pieces. Any photos of the interior, unit markings? Do you have a photo with the wappen removed to see if the mounting holes are proper? Looks like a project....but if it is unit marked it is still researchable...

    Dreyse M1862

Thanks Keith, this one looks to be without the Beck Modification. It would be interesting to know what the unit marks on the butt plate might be. You're correct these are scarce birds, don't see them too often over here either... Larry

    The Forgotten Faschinenmesser

Thanks Badner, I’ll give it a go, for now let’s start with a few from Franz-Joseph’s Army prior to WWI. These examples shown here are by no means the final word in what patterns were used or issued, they just represent a few that have floated by in the collecting stream recently. First up is...

    Prussian Pre-1871 Royal Household Flag

Greetings All... We don't seem to have too many examples of period Imperial Era flags,Ronnie being the most recent exception :D so I thought you perhaps would enjoy seeing a few photos of this example. It is what I believe to be a pre 1871 Royal Household flag which measures about 5 feet...
