Hanoverian Field Artillery at local auction house

f = feldbrauchbar --> could be worn back in the field. It would be a small "f", not a capital "F". John

    Reich & Prussian Kokarden

My guess is that they are all good. After reading some of the recent input on Kokarden, I realize that I may have been fooled in the past, but I also believe that the guidelines illustrated in some of those recent posts may be a little too rigid. We have to realize that hundreds of companies...

Wonderful collection Coert! It doesn't get better than that. John

Older Helmets with updated Eagle Wappen

When reading this thread I recalled an interesting memory that may follow the same type of situation. When I was first commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps I asked for permission to use my Dad's gold bars. My Dad was in the Corps from WWII to Korea. The bars were different...

    M1895 EM Pickelhaube

Excellent article! Thanks for the link Philippe. Is there a way we could get this link put in our Kokarden thread under Pickelhaube discussion? John

    M1895 EM Pickelhaube

I believe that the Kokarden could go either way. Here are a few tips that I use when trying to determine originality. First, the Kokarden were stamped instead of cast, so if they look cast (bubbles, subdued areas, etc) they are not original to that helmet. Anything older than 1860 bears closer...

    Model 1867 Prussian Canteen

No problem here either! I just need more evidence. I know how books, museums, the internet, can all be wrong. That's why I never use only one source. John

    Model 1867 Prussian Canteen

Frankly I don't care if the information on the M1893 canteen is correct or not. My interest is in the M67. So far I have provided information from 10 sources stating that the canteen in question is a Prussian Model 1867. My sources include 4 dealers, 1 museum, 1 book, 1 period etching, 1 article...

    Model 1867 Prussian Canteen

Here is some additional information about Prussian canteens from 1864 through 1893: (Source: http://www.vogtvonhunolstein.de/www/Preussen/30er HP/html/) If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck. John

No vaccine has yet been developed to combat the Pickelhaube collecting bug. Welcome to the forum. John😷

    Model 1867 Prussian Canteen

There is another obvious issue that I just discovered. This soldier is wearing an M60 Pickelhaube. The M60 was used in the Franco-Prussian War, but the M67 helmet had been fielded. Perhaps (just guessing now) this canteen is a previous edition. Maybe it's an M60 canteen and not an M67(?), or it...

    Model 1867 Prussian Canteen

I appreciate all of the input and I agree with much of it. I would never question the authenticity of anything on https://www.kaisersbunker.com/ and I often use Tony's website as an initial reference. I believe that it is entirely possible that the Swiss used this canteen and that it was...

    Model 1867 Prussian Canteen

Here are two more sources that point to this canteen being Prussian: http://webbingbabel.blogspot.com/2021/02/german-prussian-glass-water-bottle.html https://worldwarwonders.co.uk/product/36-original-1867-pat-german-glass-water-bottle-franco-prussian-war/ This canteen is listed as being...

    Model 1867 Prussian Canteen

Here is my latest purchase, a Model 1867 Prussian canteen: It is in immaculate condition having only a few small chips around the opening. The cork is intact and still seals the bottle: The canteen came with a tin cup that fits perfectly, but snugly, on the bottom of the canteen: The...
