    M49 Hessian

I proposed that one followed the other in my diagram. The one with the silver plate looks earlier by the size of the spike and the height of the helmet to me. We'll just have to keep looking around. Member Henry may know and I'll e-mail him.

    M49 Hessian

I'm not sorry Amy! I don't agree. I think its a first pattern Leib-Garde Helmet coming out of the transitional period with the shako which displayed the heraldry of Hesse in white/silver metal throughout the Napoleonic Wars and the following decades. There appears to be an intermediate period...

    Wilhelm II in old Garb

His impersonation of the Grand Elector of Brandenburg Friedrich Wilhelm is just incredible!

    M49 Hessian

Here's a suggestion then for the 1st Leibgarde Regiment. The bandeau then passed into the 115th later.

    M49 Hessian

Did IR 115 actually exist in 1849? How about Fusilier Regiment No. 80. We're back streaming here and the only references I have are to regiments and leibgarde regiments in my books for this period.

    M49 Hessian

I tried to read up on Hesse Darmstadt and Hesse Cassel between 1815 and 1866 on line and I'm entirely confused. Did Prussia force a reorganization of the Hesse estates after the Austro-Prussian War? If this is the first model Hesse Darmstadt IR 115 Leibgarde Regiment then it may have been...

    M49 Hessian

It seems from the early Hesse Darmstadt helmet on the left presented recently by J.LeBrasseur that the 1621 bandeau preceded 1871. https://www.pickelhaubes.com/xf/threads/two-older-hessian-115s.19821/

    M49 Hessian

https://german1914.com/chris-regiments-115th-life-guard-infantry-regiment-1st-grand-ducal-hessian/ Given the height and shape of the helmet and the white metal fittings I would guess that it predates the two appearing here. https://www.pickelhaubes.com/xf/threads/two-older-hessian-115s.19821/...

    M1860/67 Dragoner Pickelhaube Regt 4,5,6,10,12 or 15

Very fine elegant job of restoring. One of my favorite helmets.

    M49 Hessian

This is the first time I have ever seen anything like this - a Hesse Darmstadt helmet with a bandeau date. I assume it is a IR 115 as well since that date is associated with the regiment's founding following what Tony has written. I think Amy has discovered something entirely unique - a new...

    CCJ collection

I love this photo... makes a great conceptual link to the original photos of field marshals, generals and staff officers reviewing troops in the field. Looking at it all together with the photos of the actual uniforms you can bring all that field ceremonialism to life in your mind.

    Perlrings

Does anyone know of a source for high quality officer's perlring either restamps or other reproductions for restoration either complete or as a strip? Spikehelmets is low in stock and I need a 100+ mm length or 31 mm.

    Lauenburger M1848 pickelhaube

GO AMY!! Lauenburg declared its independence from Denmark together with Schleswig and Holstein in 1848 and adopted the M42 in alliance with the German Federation. However, potentially threatened by a Prussian claim to its territory as well, they arranged to have Hanoverian troops occupy the...

    Movie on T V

Much of this material was preserved with Western Costume Company in Hollywood. It was difficult to see the inventory unless you were a union professional actively engaged in a production. Then they nearly went out of business and had some major sales in the 1970's and early 1980's when one...

    M1842 Lippe Detmold EM pickelhaube

Congradulations! Beautiful condition. The Lippe-Detmold infantry battalion served with Count von Rantzau of Oldenburg's 2nd Combined Brigade during the First Schleswig Holstein War.
