    1864 equipment

Stuart, I have one photo of a group of Prussians just after the 1864 war. They have some of their gear on. I was just recently at the Bavarian Army Museum in Ingolstadt, and they had a superb exhibit on the 1866 war. The focus was on the engagements between Bavaria and Prussia. I will try to...

    Pickelhaube repair

I could have purchased a stone mint M15 Garde Pickelhaube helmet at a show recently for $1000, and probably less. I passed, as did everyone else, because it had a repro chinstrap. Not worth the effort in trying to find the same condition chinstrap. My advice is to stop trying to restore this...

    The Woe of the Vanquished

Great! Thanks for sharing the link. Every time I am in Germany I search for monuments. Usually I just GPS "Denkmal" or visit the "Traces of War" website. It has served me well locating monuments from the "Wars of Unification". There are more monuments around that most folks realize.

    1889

It's a Cavalry M1889 in about the poorest condition I have ever seen. Wouldn't even bring $200 at a show. Neil is correct on the unit designation, IMO.

    Slip ons?

Need to see more photos. Backside view will tell us alot. What is the piping made from? Rayon or wool? Looks TR to me as well....so far. Edit; was able to zoom in and I can see the piping. Clearly rayon. The same style as Panzerjäger boards. If I see the backside I will be able to tell if they...

    Break In Berlin

Whenever I fly into Berlin I spend most of the time in Potsdam, with day trips to Berlin. Some of the sights mentioned above are in Potsdam, so I would recommend at least a day trip there. About 35 kms away. They have recently rebuilt the Stadt Schloss and the alter Markt. Many of the Garde...

    book recommendations

I have all the books by Prit Buttar, and while not completely first person accounts, he includes alot of personal accounts. I have read 3 of the 4 he has written on the Eastern Front in WWI, and the WWII one on "Battleground Prussia", since that is where my family is from. I recommend all of...

Book to sell - Die Formations- und Uniformierungsgeschichte des preußischen Heeres 1808 bis 1914 - Part 1

I was finally able to obtain a set in perfect condition at a modest price. Superb references! You might have a better chance of selling it if you put it in the sales section, and listed a price...

    The Forgotten Faschinenmesser

The Regiment is the 106th Infantry. Replacement battalion as indicated before. Since it is a Saxon unit, it is likely to be a Saxon model. I am sure Larry has them somewhere on this thread. The date should be on the edge of the blade.

    Baltimore Antique Arms Show

While the show is still mainly antique arms, there are more militaria folks attending/ getting tables each year, as the Civil War folks are aging. Easily, for me, the 3rd best show in the US to attend. Great place for Imperial (and pre-Imperial) swords, bayonets, and firearms. Field gear as...

Morphy Auctions merges with James Julia Auctions

This news is a few weeks old, but I thought I would pass it on; https://www.morphyauctions.com/stunning-move-morphy-auctions-merges-james-d-julia-inc/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I do work for Morphy's when they need me, so I can attest to the first class quality of their...

    Minneapolis show

They want the Founding Fathers, and then invalidate the Constitution. That has been the goal of Progressives since Woodrow Wilson. That is all they care about. The rest is all just a smokescreen, and a means to the end result.

    Minneapolis show

I don't think anyone forced this issue. Instead I think it was the show itself. Bob made a fortune selling TR stuff that he bought for pennies on the dollar from vets. Then selling for crazy prices. I know, because I have a few things from him. It doesn't matter to him because those "pay...

    MAX Show

Peter, I agree the Max is a better show to socialize. To me the SOS is too large, in the sense that I have a tough time venturing from my tables for very long, and even walking all the isles. I hear what others are saying about Imperial items. Other than WWII, my Imperial and pre-Imperial...

    MAX Show

I will be there, and have 2 tables along the wall to the left of the main entrance. I don't expect to find much, but sales might pick ( for me at least ) due to the stronger Euro. Will return from a long trip to Germany (Berlin, Potsdam, Dresden, & Poland) 2 days before, so I might be relaxing...

    One Day Shows

Peter, I sincerely doubt the show hall management, of either the Max or SOS, had anything to do with the schedule. Since you mentioned the gun show, they always had a strong Sat and Sun, and never setup before Friday. I remember when the old "Max Show mafia" moved to Weds for setup. Same time I...

    One Day Shows

I stated the entire show should be slipped forward by one day. This way Saturday would be a full day (as the current Friday is). Sunday at 3 would be when table holders can start packing and leave. Right now the show caters to table holders, advanced collectors, and OVMS members. Many working...

    One Day Shows

Wednesday setup should be dropped and moved to Thursday at both the SOS and Max. The whole schedule should be slipped by a day. Saturday should be a full day, for those who work and can't get Friday off. Sunday should be breakdown and departure. The SOS replicated Wednesday setup from the Max...
