    May 2007 Tradition

Hi Joe Very interesting study. It would explain the lot of different types of helmets, close to regular helmets but with extra parts we can still see. You said "They sold many cockades in lots of 100". Are they still selling these cockades?????????? Anyway, thank you for the time you took to...

    What exactly is this?

I would say, it is an helmet for Home guard / Civil defence or something like that. The Solhberg helmet was primarily paint in brown, sometimes in brown-green / kaki, by the Russians. They were often re painted in black afterwards. Eric

Good or not? Please add your opinions!

Andrew, Go to Whermacht Awrads Forulm to check your cross Rick: You take a shell, you clean it from old paint but you do not clean all the rust. You re paint the shell, put it in your cooker and afterwards wait few months in a wet atmosphere. The dust will come again, you clean up the paint...

Good or not? Please add your opinions!

Hi Just a comment about the cam helmet the camouflage painting is very well done, nice patina. The painted "Guard" badge is badly painted and was obviously added some days ago. The liner is a model of the 30's, so late. All in all, a good painted shell (I did not say genuine), with added...

    Latest Find-but I don´t know what I´ve bought exactly

Hi Joe is totally right. Land Gendarmerie. This marking is very often seen on helmets sold on Ebay. But often the seller does know / does not explain this stamp and...sells a Dragoon helmet, a Guard helmet,...more attractive than a Gendarmerie one. Nevertheless, yours looks genuine and nice...

    Kürassier model 1867

Hi Brian, Totally agree with you as far as the leather is concerned. My only concern on this helmet is the base of the spike, heavily repaired in my opinion. Best regards Eric

Imperial German Spike Helmet for the State of Hesse

Hi Concerning the extra holes: generally speaking, why not, and especially on this kind of old leather shell, reissued and re issued..... But the 2 upper holes, closed with leather, with some tracks of rings for 1895 type do not make sens to me. In this way, may the typical Heesiian spike was...

    Prussian M.1860 Pickelhaube

Hi No markings (unfortunately) inside my 1860. And it is the same inside 1860 Weitze's Colberg one. Alexandr, your model looks very good: old patina and good pices, including the specific bolts. Congratulations. Best regards Eric

    Kürassier model 1867

Hi Chris, Thanks for the info... According to the seller, this helmet was indeed cleaned and polished. Thus the rivets and bolts are very bright. Concerning the soldered spike the seller answered me that is not so important....but sent me all pictures required. So I would think he is honest...

    Kürassier model 1867

Hi, Could somebody have a look at: http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140103206148 I like it, except - the leather liner with squared tongues instead of round tongues (but even like that, I would say genuine) - the base of the spike was soldered. So that means, it was broken...

Preußen Model 1867 Garde Grenadier Pickelhaube

Hi Tony I only can say: wonderful :) Indeed, this type of helmets, reused and reused, is very interesting. I have also seen 6 holes made on a 1860 shell at different periods, on the back and on the front of this shell. Finally this shel was re issued for a Reservist. The Wappen plate of the...
