Infanterie Regt 102 postcard translation please

Thank you, yes I do believe it is Bautzen. Further research points out that the soldier's name is Paul and he is writing to his sister explaining he had a good train journey but got wet in the rain afterwards and furthermore is unlikely to be able to visit until after Pentecost. I think a neat...

Infanterie Regt 102 postcard translation please

I recently acquired a simple soldier's postcard from a member of 3rd Kompanie, Infanterie Regiment 102. Nicely stamped May 18, 1917 from Zittau in Saxony. I assume it is to the soldier's mother or perhaps wife being addressed to Frau Anna Wendler in the town of what looks like Bautren (or...

    My second expirience on restoration

Great job! That looks like a very tall kugel, can I ask what is the measurement from the base to the top of the kugel?

    Rebuilding a Grenadier Arty

And fibreglass dust itches like hell if it gets onto your skin. I repaired a motorcycle fairing years ago wearing only shorts due to the heat of summer and my thighs itched for about 3 days! (I had the fairing sitting on my lap)

    EM’s OR N.C.O'S SAXON GARDE-REITER REGIMENT WITH PARADE-LION

Absolutely stunning! And for me not too polished at all. For my knowledge, is the copper colour of the shell a coating over a base metal or the colour of the metal (Tombak?) itself?

A mistake in my youth --- or not?

I still have every piece of militaria I've ever bought so I guess I'm in the 'keep it' camp too! :thumb up:

    EM Württemberg M95.

Wonderful example, and not 'grotty' at all! I seem to see a ring of knurling around the base of the spike, is this peculiar to Wurttemberg helmets?

2nd Guard Ulan Officer Tschapka with Musician Plume

Exquisite piece Alan! :thumb up: For me, I would have the liner re-stitched but leave the mortar board as-is. The slight wear/damage speaks to me of the age of the piece.

Unique Marked Bavarian Felt Ersatz helmets

Wonderful examples! The latest purchase looks massive! I wonder if it has any size markings inside?

    Alsatian Dragoner

Amazing that no-one has attempted to 'clean' the brass and therefore damage the gilding over the years...a rare find!

    M 15 Line Kurassiers

Well my M15 Kurassier arrived today (thank you Tony) and I have to say it is beautiful! No need for rust removal or polishing in my opinion. Just hold it gently and admire... :thumb up:

    M 15 Line Kurassiers

A bit or research today has it that evapo-rust is good for heavy rust and rust and blue remover is good for the light rust.

    M 15 Line Kurassiers

Ed, your line Kurassiers are superb! I wonder, what (if anything) do you use to polish the shells? I have an M15 on its way to me now and it shows some light surface rust. I figure to use a rust remover solution and then coat the shell in renaissance wax to protect against further corrosion.

    Prussian Dragoon Reserve Officer's Pickelhaube

Perusing Tony's website as I often do, I note that the position of the Landwehr cross on the chest and lack of Fatherland bandeau denotes my helmet as Landwehr as opposed to Reserve. I wonder, does this impact the relative rarity of my helmet? Would a Dragoon Landwehr be rightly considered...
