    M15 OR's Tschapka "Bond Helmet"

Things have been quite busy "haubewise" here. So, we have another member's helmet that needs some TLC. I want to thank all customers for their trusting me with their treasures. In this case, a very cool M15 tschapka in as new condition, never issued....probably a bond prize helmet. As many...

    Final Decision on Forum Monetization

Friends: I will not be monetizing our forum, we will go back to voluntary donations as in past years. A couple of reasons for this...I have talked to my accountant and he has advised against it due to possible income tax issues, which I do not need. I only considered this move because donations...

    JR 88 Officer Helmet

Another helmet I have been working on from JR 88. This job was supposed to be a "simple fix a depressed shell top" so the spike fits properly. Unfortunately, there can be surprises with 100 year old leather and shellac finish. Originally as you will see there were some bubbles in the finish...

    OR's Fangschnur

We see lots of these cords in pictures but I have never had the opportunity to examine a set of these first hand. Well I did on a visit to The Bunker years ago but memory has faded. These come from Alan's Garde Tschapka which was sent for a visor restitch. The photos:

I received a reply from tech support yesterday. Tornado

FYI we had a tornado role through one part of our city yesterday afternoon. Several houses destroyed and some injuries but no loss of life thankfully. Fortunately, we just experienced heavy rain fall in our area, so the collection is safe. My wife and I are ok too 😊 😀

A Visit To Military Antiques Toronto

Some photos taken on a visit to the Military Antiques Toronto shop. We are in stage one right now in Ontario, no longer completely locked down so no laws were broken during this visit. This is the first time I have paid a visit to MAT's new larger location so I was very much looking forward to...

    Saxe Buckle HR 20

I recently picked up this buckle marked 20.H.4.1. The description in the listing stated buckle from HR 20. As I have an OR busby from that regiment I bought the buckle. As you will see the item is infantry style not mounted troops. However, HR 20 fought as dismounted troops during the war...

    M95 Baden Pioneer Battalion No.14

Baden had only one Pioneer Battalion No. 14 created in 1850, based at Kehl, XIV AK. The problems.....both visors and liner have been glued on. Original liner must be replaced, tears and covered in glue residue. Front visor trim (original) which is officer style does not fit and is an obvious...

    Stitching the Ulan Visor

This helmet of Alan's has already been posted, now we are going to look at how to restitch a tschapka visor: The problem here, which is common to tschapkas is that the visor needs restitching. Tschapka visors look cool because there is no stitch line showing across the visor. However, this also...

    Wartime Officer Ersatz Liners

Most of us are aware of the differences between pre WW1 officer helmets and those made during the War. A materials shortage produced the use of many ersatz solutions by manufacturers. The most obvious of these is the use of zinc "pot metal" fittings such as chin scales, spikes, spines etc. We...
