Why Do I Collect this Stuff ?

@Doug B ,Karel is missed by many here, me included. I first got in contact with him in our, now not existing anymore, ForumEerste Wereldoorlog, where he was not regarded as a dedicated collector, but as a know-it-all, which I resented. So he went away there, pissed-off, which is quite normal, he...

    M15 Prussian Pickelhaube- J.R. 156

A very nice M15, and well marked too! Usually M15's are not so well marked, preventing the allies to see which regiment they were up against. (if the helmet would be found/captured) Congratulations! Regards, Coert.

I have seen that picture, and more from the same guy. A French guy, making a living out of this, if I remember correctly.

    Johan SOMERS Reference books

Great books Francis! I do not have the Fieldgrey set in my reference library, yet. I do however also have that vorsicht bei gesprachen thing too here, but then mine say's Achtung, Feind hört mit, Nach gesprach 3x ablauten. Which was alway's fitted to ww2 bunker phones.

    Johan SOMERS Reference books

In fact, Johan also produced a 3 volume set, Imperial German Field Uniforms and Equipment 1907- 1918, which was printed by Schiffer Military History, years ago. These are good books too! But produced quite a while ago, maybe you can search for those 3 volumes too, also great books! Regards, Coert.

    Dry Cracks on Pickelhaube

Usually, this phemonenum is called spidering on these haubes. Quite common to see it, after all those years. I agree with Brian, some shoepolish would sort this out/ make it less visible. Some of my helmets have this too.

Why Do I Collect this Stuff ?

You are certainly not really the only one, who's really missing Steve, so do I. When I joined up here, he told me so much, I learned a lot from him, also way after my first joining up. And I'm, like you, certainly not the ony one.

Why Do I Collect this Stuff ?

I agree, especially on the learning of other people about these helmets, medals and such, also about WW1 history. I am also a motorcycle rider, and a member of a forum dedicated to them. Sometimes when a fellow member comes to visit me for spare parts, which I have a lot of, they are amazed by...

Why Do I Collect this Stuff ?

Indeed we are. I see us collectors like curators, caring for them, so they will be everlasting collecting objects when we are long gone.
