    SOS 2026

I didn't set up this year, but I've never really cared about attendance. SOS can be crowded on Saturday for many years, but that is just a crowd that touches everything and buys nothing. I judge the show by what I found... I am happy.

    Portuguese Spiked Helmet

This helmet will be heading to Portugal. It is far rarer than I expected, and a good friend in Portugal collects these. It belongs in his collection.

    King's Regiment Home Service Helmet

One of my other SOS purchases. This was so cheap, I couldn't pass it up. I remember when a helmet like this would have cost three times as much. This is an Edwardian-era Home Service Helmet of the British Army's King's Regiment (Liverpool), one of the oldest line infantry regiments.

    Portuguese Spiked Helmet

I bought this at SOS. It is an M1885 Portuguese infantry regiment helmet. The spike is incorrect, but the price was right.

    SOS Load In

There is a long access hallway along the outside wall, used to store tables, chairs, etc. I know because I used it during the 2021 SOS to beat the crowds on Thursday/Friday. IN THEORY, dealers could be allowed to line up in that narrow hallway, which I wouldn't describe as pleasant to say the...

    SOS Load In

I don't think the parking lot will be full of RVs. Rather, the Louisville Boat, RV & Sportshow runs from Wednesday through Sunday. I believe it is in the three South Wing halls, A, B, and C. The RVs and boats will be inside, but the show generally attracts 28,000 to 30,000 people over the five...

I did confirm that the lobby doors will be open for Life members and dealers who aren't loading in.

OVMS updated the load-in info on their Facebook page. And I checked the weather. "Polar Vortex."🥶

    weekly sales in America

I've been saving but also spending. A few things popped on the radar or were offered to me. As a Canadian friend said to me, "It is only money."

Santa Tracker Turns 70 This Year

For 70 Years, NORAD Has Been Tracking Santa Claus On Christmas Eve The holiday tradition began when Santa's phone number was misprinted in a local newspaper. Instead of the North Pole, it was for the Continental Air Defense Command...

New York City to Teach Kids Arabic Numerals

I saw on social media today that New York City, which just elected its first Muslim mayor, will require that school children learn Arabic numerals! What is next? They'll have to learn the Latin alphabet, too?

    Brodie Helmet With Unknown Flash

There are going to be fakes in 100 years that are attributed as real. Well, I probably won't be around to see it.

    Brodie Helmet With Unknown Flash

Thank you for the insight. I don't think 41st Infantry Division, A.E.F., either. The colors are wrong, but I also don't believe any A.E.F. units used Brodie helmets. The A.E.F. was issued British Mk I helmets, including those that were repaired/repainted, but I've never heard of a single Brodie...

Swiss Guard Debuted New 'Formal Uniform' While Keeping Renaissance-Era Attire

At the Show Of Shows (SOS) about 10 years ago, a dealer had a full Swiss Guard Uniform for sale. I can't imagine where he received it, as they're not supposed to be sold. This was the only time I ever saw a helmet offered for sale.
