    CRUSHED !!!

Well John, you will probably find the finer coloured cotton threads there which perhaps could be used to stitch an officer silk back into place but like I said the black thicker thread, not so much.

    CRUSHED !!!

So the pictures of my vintage thread spools.....wow we are really getting down to the fine points here! Left spool, for officer visors, fine thread, on the right the heavier thread for OR's visors. The back sides...the Dorcas is a 12 cord thread. Two other spools of vintage cotton thread...

    CRUSHED !!!

Good questions John. Buying the right thread to restitch a helmet in general is a large problem when you get into this. I am a dufus regarding trying to understand the information found on the labels of spools of vintage thread. First, it must be 100% cotton, no man made additions. This forces...

Regarding the kokarde shown above which is mine, I have seen evidence of painting by hand on several Wurttemburg officer kokarden over the years.

    Shrinkage

We all should be aware of how just how much our helmets have shrunk over the last 100+ years. Here is a reminder using a Grenadier officer helmet I have recently finished' Our helmets shrink/dry out over time largely due to environmental conditions. The leather shrinks, but the metal fittings...

    CRUSHED !!!

Finally finished this piece and mailed it out today. As always, the refinish work took a great deal of time. Fortunately, the major creases caused by the crushing were covered by the wappen. Even so many coats of finish were applied to fill them, not completely but significantly. Some minor...

    America and Covid

The health card has to be renewed every 4 years by your province and a new mug shot taken. You are issued a temporary document until your new card arrives in the mail just in case you need medical help. You don’t have to pay for your card renewal.

Great condition, no slider vent on the rear spine? An excellent makers label as well. I will have to see if we have that company on our list. I would als be interested in the markings when you have time.

    America and Covid

All Canadians have their provincial health card with their photo on it. This is the only way to get vaccinations. My card was checked 4 times when I got my first shot at mass immunization site in a local community centre. Very difficult if not impossible for anyone to steal your vaccination...

    Pickelhauben and Covid-19

I have discussed this price issue with James. We both feel that everything has gone up/increased in price especially at auction. I don’t see any drop in price coming. The enforced covid stay at home has led to more online buying. I know myself that I have bought things just to have something to...

Well, here you go....for all those looking...!

Yes no doubt that it can be fixed by wetting the top and blocking it on a headform. The missing visor trim is a problem though.
