    Talc on picklehaube?

Hi Rob, The exterior lacquer or finish has oxidized, which creates this whitish color film on the surface of the helmet. Best Wishes, Alan

Not eBay but still neat find

Yes, and it has been there for a while. If it was reasonably priced and/or in great shape, it would have been long gone.

    UNITED STATES IMPORT EXPORT DEVELOPMENTS

Hi Brian, Thanks for posting this. I have been wondering about the possibility of mailing my enlisted pattern Guard Train Battalion helmet up to you in order to have both visors re-stitched. If it is o.k. to send it up to you, I will use the regular plain brown box as I normally do. I'll...

What am I missing here, repro plate? Too damaged?

Yes, the helmet body is blackened felt, and not vulcan fiber. This is shown in the photo of the interior of the helmet, where the silk liner is parted and it reveals this fact. The wappen or front plate is original. The spike, base, and the other fittings appear to have all of the mercury fire...

Video: WW1 German Telegraphs and Telephones in World War I. 1914-1918

On Facebook, Johan Somers recommended an amazing instructional video about German WW1 Telegraph and Fernsprecher equipment. He states that it is one of the best video's that he has ever seen on this topic. The video and subtitles are in German, but in the settings one can change it to English...

    Hessian Officer

This helmet seems to be a mystery with the way it is configured with the parts on it. Will has shared with me that the chinscales are silver color under the links. Maybe the golden appearance color that is seen on the exposed portion of the chinscale links comes from old cigarette smoke, which I...

    Minenwerfer Shoulder Strap Collection

Jeff had part of the Chip Minx collection on display at the last O.V.M.S. Show of Shows in Louisville, with the statement that it will be made available on their upcoming A.G.M./Bannerman Auctions. I took some photos of part of it that they had in their display cases. I will have to look and see...

    weekly sales in America

I am not picking on Steve here for saying this, because what he said is true. A rare $450 helmet back in the 1970's that is now valued at $7,000. $450 was a lot of money back in the 1970's to most people. Here is a part of the understanding of how this happened: In 1965 the United States made...

Grenadier-Regiment zu Pferde Freiherr von Derfflinger (Neumärkisches) Nr. 3 help needed

Hi John, I'd try posting this on WAF Imperial Medals & Badges section. There are members there who will be able to tell you about these post-war veteran medals, the ribbons, and most likely someone there will chime in about whether or not this unit was qualified for the Flanders cross or not...

US TARIFFS ARE BRUTAL (Personal Anecdote)

Thanks for sharing this Rob. I'm not surprised this happened to you, that they missed having you sign to receive the package, and they simply dumped it off in your mailbox. I've had the postal service miss scanning a package delivery to me, several times over the years. Best Wishes, Alan
