    Fake Pickelhauben Photos And Characteristics

Here is a typical fake helmet probably made in India, these are all over Ebay: This fake is supposedly representing a Famous Garde Dragoon Regt. Haube. First the "chemical aging" of the brass screams reproduction! Real oxidization of brass is uniform, not in chemical patches! Perhaps the worst...

    Fake Pickelhauben Photos And Characteristics

One of our main missions here on the forum is to share information so as to prevent new collectors from being fooled or ripped off by today's fake pickelhauben. Consequently, I am starting a new thread here where we can show you obvious fakes and what to look out for. The reason for this, is...

What am I supposed to make of that?

I agree, we need a section in the New Collector area where we post photos of these terrible fakes made by Habib in Mumbai and others. I will get on this.

    Wappen lug re-repair

I do not have a blast cabinet so I use the dremel tool and wire brush method to remove the old solder. I then use iso alcohol to clean both surfaces before applying flux. I also use a butane torch to melt the solder. Initially, I tried electric soldering irons but the cheaper ones do not heat up...

What do I have here. Closest match seems to be a Mecklenburg 1860?

Yes a vulcan fiber fireman helmet. The fire officer helmets as in this case, often have trim on the rear visor. Of interest...the sweatband liner has aeration holes in the "forehead" area. You do not find this on most officer pickelhauben.

Recent Frustration Shipping to the USA

Unfortunately, it is our American friends that are paying the price at least that is what seems to be happening with my customers. I did buy 3 helmets out of Michigan last fall and did have to pay the CN duties. To my dismay the seller wrote down the actual price so he cost me $ as a result...

Welcome Chris. Some photos of your collection would be nice to see and yes we would very much appreciate you using a language translator to post on the forum. However, if this is not possible I will use Pete’s suggested method. We want new collectors here on the forum, language should not be a...

Recent Frustration Shipping to the USA

Yes Doug, more complicated and like I said I have the Zonos app and I have used it twice (with one screw up) but I am not prepaying. Apparently the US company running that app is having problems according to UPS. I also don't see a State tax resulting in a $29.75 fee, when the 4 pieces of...

Recent Frustration Shipping to the USA

The following is intended to provide information on my recent experience shipping a helmet and some chin scale pieces to 2 forum members in the US. The helmet was a restoration project and the scales are going to be used to complete chin scales missing some pieces. First a brief History of...
