As far as I know it was always transported separated. Having the projectiles and shell casings moved as a whole is heavy but more importantly much more dangerous when being hit by (counter battery) shell fire.

I believe a grouping with 3 of these small Pickelhauben were sold at the auction in Waver last month. The price didn't went that high either if I recall correctly.

This is really cool and unexpected to find over 80 years after the area came to Poland for good. You should look for an accompanying helmet again. Would make a great display! :)
