    Yes, they are too short. This is because the back piece is from an older captured French model 1814 and the front is a Prussian model 1845. The placement of the studs to attach the straps was different for the 2 models. On the 1814 they were higher up so the straps were a bit shorter.

    Maybe he was a crewman on the Konigsberg that fought as infantry with the schutztruppe after their ship was sunk in DOA. There were also some sailors from merchant vessels that served in the schutztruppe when they were stranded in DOA.
