Same question - what does "woke" mean in this context? On this side of the pond, it's been overused to the point of being synonymous with "I don't like it" these days. Thanks! (And these are marvelous threads Francis - I really appreciate your pictures)

Leib-Husaren Rgt. 1 Flag of first photo

Yes - and pretty sure both 1LHR1 and 2LHR2 were XVII Corps, not Garde Corps (re: B.A.G. stamp)

Am I seeing this one correctly?

Agreed on all of the above. Could also explain the NCO Prussian kokarde where the Bavarian would have been swapped out. Interesting in that it looks like the front brad on the spike base is a split pin that has not been opened for some reason...can't imagine that would have been comfortable...

    GM17 display

/Seconded. Fantastic stuff - and love the torch group portrait! Is your Württemberg kratzchen marked? Wondering if DR26 or UR20. Beautiful either way. 😺

    1st Foot Garde Regiment Mitre

Wow - so they've never been cheap! Especially in the prestige regiments, potential officers had to provide proof of independent income as their salaries barely approached the cost of kitting out properly. You can see why, at these prices...

    1st Foot Garde Regiment Mitre

Hoo boy - could not agree more, especially the complicated way those stars were attached. But I'd have to guess that there were many makers and price points for these privately purchased works of art, with a lot of variation (just like the helmets) based on one's taste and wallet size.

    Garde Jager Batl / 2 Kp 1907

Oh that's beautiful Steve! No backing material, like some you've shown before for Jaeger battalions - interesting to have an example in context.

This is a really interesting one Brian - I will be fascinating to see the progress! And that Verdun/Douaumont engraving is tantalizing. 😺

    Weird Bolts and Blackened Wappen?

Thanks Ron (and Pontiac) - that's exactly what I thought/was afraid it was. Not trying to be coy, but the helmet isn't mine so only sharing what I need to. I am not looking at cleaning so much as knowing whether it has been messed with, which I am pretty sure now it has. I am trying to make a...

    Weird Bolts and Blackened Wappen?

I am looking to tap the vast knowledge of the community hive mind here - has anyone seen the reverse of an officer wappen blackened like this? It looks like soot/scorch marks, and is not from transfer of the lacquer. Also, the wappen bolts are unusually long (enough to poke through the silk...
