They used to sell electronic copies of Uniformes Magazine issues on 1001mags, but the website seems to have disappeared. I really like them, as you can zoom in and see more detail than in the printed version.

I have a helmet which was ordered directly for L.I.R. 53 (so no hand-me-down from an active regiment), but has a normal eagle without a cross. The Germans don't seem to have been that strict when it came to the Landwehr cross on the Wappen for Reserve and Landwehr troops.

Welcome to the forum, Imo the picture shows him as a young man doing his military service before the first world war, and not as a Meldereiter during the war. His year of birth could confirm that. Regards, Lars

Hi Marlo, Welcome to the forum! Imo a model 1895 for enlisted men, with the Wappen for a Grenadier Regiment. The parts look original, but the chinstrap should be black on the outside, so probably replaced at some point in time with an early war version. The inside doesn't seem to be tampered...

Hi Losse, Welcome to the forum. I don't think children's helmets would be regimentally marked :) , people were smaller then, with smaller heads. Some shrinkage has probably taken place as well, as you can see at the rear spine. The helmet looks original to me, model 1895, with a nice regimental...

This Ebay helmet would certainly fool me, I won't comment on the camouflage or the liner, but I don't see red flags with the underlying shell. The warhats Stahlhelm looks very different, with the very long "duckbeak" visor, that one I can recognise :) .
