Thank you for the interesting photos. I believe you are conflating several different aspects. The mobilization of 1914 was very well prepared; there was no need for substitute helmets. Substitute helmets were produced only from the autumn of 1914 until the spring of 1915. The 6th Cuirassier...

That isn't a Cuirassier eagle, either.

I think it's a copy. The rear edge only existed up to the Model 1867. The cross is in the wrong place, and so on. I don't like the shape, either.
