Hes fairly well known amongst British collectors, but still maintains that magic 100% feedback record..very strange. Don`t know about the birdy, but I wouldnt buy it on principal! Andy

If it is a landgendarmerie helmet which the markings seem to imply, it has had the wappen replaced at some point in the past. There is an earlier post regarding LG helmets and I had a very similar issue with my own LG helmet, which also came with a Guard wappen and not a Guard grenadier wappen...

Is this not the wrong wappen for Land Gendarmerie? I thought they were issued with the Grenadier wappen (the one with the curly hand guard) This seems to be a guard eagle. Andy

I can`t comment on the tunic piping, but I have dealt with this seller and hes pretty straight. He has an online shop also. The items I have had from him are all as described, sometimes a little pricey but hey. He even marked my items as a gift, without me asking. I would certainly trust him and...

I`m really not convinced that this wappen is original. It looks like it has a brown wash over it to age it. it looks like its been painted and rubbed to remove high areas of paint and the writing looks like its been re done, badly with a black wash. That`s not to say it isnt an original plate...

Its black isnt it? Its a Prussian one so possibly original, but not to this helmet, which I reckon was born somewhere other than Germany Andy

:D I wasnt actually thinking of a use for it. Being honest I find post war modified items nearly as interesting as unmodified war time ones. It was a sign of the times, one thing being put to another use and the fate of many war time uniforms I`m sure. Im just not convinced this is a modified...

Yep, pretty much what I was thinking, although Haselgrove and Radovic seem to think that their helmet is contemporary. I think post war is far more likely. In the case of the ebay one I think it is very much more post war :) Andy

Sorry for the delay, heres the scan of the helmet. Now there really cant be two such odd looking helmets out there that are soooo similar and contemporary? Perhaps Picasso had a lucrative side line in knocking out camo helmets :D Its a mystery Andy

I would probably agree with that Ron, I mean talk about making yourself a target. I will scan the pics tonight, though its a large book and might crush my scanner :D I just cant believe there are two such very odd helmets so closely resembling each other and both contemporary, though as always...
