Hi USN,
Interesting postcard!
I'm not so convinced the sender is "Schlodder", rather someone that references the 2nd company and Ltn Schlodder, as sender details were typically written like "Abs. rank (first name) last name, unit information" which I don't see here. The sender's information...
Hi Mike,
The type of hair for the Pickelhaube bush was specified in the Bekleidungsordnung. In the 1903 version for the enlisted men and NCO's, horse hair was specified, and in the 1895 version for officers, buffel hair was specified. In my quick review of these documents I didn't find any...
Hi,
If I were you I would polish the helmet, add the missing stud, possibly add the missing Knopf 91, and that would make a stunning display piece. These are small additions that hardly detract from the piece's originality. You can add (replica) scales and Kokarden to make it look more...
Hi,
Looks correct on the outside, not sure what the liners on these older uniforms (large buttons) should look like. Moths like wool, not linen, so I’m not concerned about the difference in wear.
3rd Cie. never fits MGK 😀

Lars
Hi Rocky,
Nice helmet, and nicely marked!
As said, a shame that someone added an extra plate, but hopefully that only added two small holes on the back. The eagle belongs to the helmet, that also fits with IR 136.
I’m no expert on this type of helmet, but it looks ok to me. The disc under the...
I'm sorry to say but I don't like the stamps, it seems like some underlying stamps have been rubbed out, and new ones put on top. I don't like the font, or the smudginess of the stamps that seems to be the same on both sides, even though the stamping should have taken place at different times...
The spammer is very recognizable (writing in Russian?), just ignore his posts and report, and the admin will remove the posts. Imo slightly annoying, but no big deal.
Hi Taylor,
Welcome to the forum! Congratulations on this picture of your early ancestor.
I'm no expert on these early uniforms, but Bavarian Ulan seems to fit as far as I can see.
Military service was an important event in imperial Germany, and many soldiers got their picture taken in uniform at...
Thanks Wojtek,
They are painted, and where the paint is missing the metal underneath has oxidized; easier to see with Wappen in hand, maybe better to see in this close-up.

Lars
Hi Wojtek,
Took some pictures, and I see the same paint spilling over from the front on my Wappen (clearly visible at the back of the "little eagle"). Due to the quality of the painting, the way that on some spots the paint seems to have been intentionally removed to shine the brass underneath...
Thank you for the picture of the back, I agree it looks like paint spilling over from the front. I will see if I can make a picture of mine, maybe they’re all repainted 😱

Lars
