    An old Canadian Militaria Collection

Thanks Doug for taking the time to post your Canadian collection which was absolutely amazing. Were you not tempted to keep some of the ultra rare items, like the “E9” badge or the tanker’s mask, hidden in a drawer somewhere :)? Regards, Lars

    Cartridge pouch

That looks like a very challenging repair, with lots of missing parts. I did a rebuild of battlefield finds when I was much younger, merging several Patronentaschen into one. It came out looking quite ok, but a lot smaller than the original due to the leather shrinkage. The pre-repair picture is...

Purchased helmet at estate sale. Is it authentic?

Hello, A nice original helmet. The Wappen has a polished look, it might also be made of white-metal rather than the more common iron. Lars

    Stahlhelm M 16

To me the shell appears original, but the paint and the liner are smudged in the typical "aged" look, so I'm not sure those are original. I also find it surprising that the whole rim has lost its paint.

A long time ago I saw some of the steel 7.7 cm casings in the Somme region, they don't display as nice as the brass ones though :)

    Help with faded markings

Imo if the B.A. stamp is indeed a B.A. stamp (the B seems a bit blurry, could it be a B.J.A?: however, I have never seen a B.J.A. stamp of this shape) then that would be where the helmet is initially received and taken into stock. At some point in time afterwards it was issued to I.R. 138...

    Help with faded markings

In that case I would expect a B.J.A. stamp (Bekleidungs-Instandsetzungs-Amt, clothing repair depot). That helmet also has a "gb" stamp, indicating that the helmet has passed though a B.J.A. after around October 1916 (when the regulation came into force); the Vizefeldwebel might have received...
