12th Hussar Regt Officer's parade shabraque

I picked this up at a recent auction. It's pretty beat-up and showing it's age (kind of like me  ) but looks really good! For a size reference the floor tiles are 1 foot each (about 30 cm), and it spans about 4 in either dimension. There are laces on the inside of the front flaps for securing it to something (maybe stirrup straps?).

The beginnings of a grouping. Shown with an old, beat-up 12th Hussar Leutnant's service attila that I picked up a while ago.

My suggestion for the laces....tied around the cinch strap which secures the saddle to the horse. The stirrups have to move around as the rider adjusts to the movements of the horse. I have only ridden twice in my life.....very slowly, just a guess . :)

I think you're right about it being to a static strap. The girth strap or maybe the breast strap? That would keep it from flopping around and sliding back.

Cheers! Bob

Very nice find

Thanks! I've really been getting enchanted by the pomp and panoply of the Husaren. It's going to be a challenge to figure out how to display this...but it will be a fun one!
