The cockades and the double-headed bird outline don't make sense.

I don't have my references with me, but I think Schwarztburg-Rudolstadt (?) wore a plate of this configuration early on...

Herzogtümer/Duchies of Schleswig-Holstein (1848-1851):
-1848: both Duchies formed an alliance with the King of Denmark. February 1848: the events in Paris ignited the revolutionary spark; as in Prussia, and most of the German States.
-In Schleswig-Holstein the insurgents against Denmark formed a small army that soon was dressed and equipped to Prussian example.
-The Infantry Pickelhaube was the Prussian Mod 1842 with brass fittings. The Helmwappen consisted of the two-headed Adler with an inescutcheon with the coats of arms of both Duchies.-Kokarde: blue-white-red; right side. Deutsche Kokarde (red-yellow-black); left side-to mark the bond with the Deutscher Bund.
-A Prussian army rushed to the rescue of the small army of Schleswig-Holstein. It pulled back in 1849. The Defeat of Idstet in 1850 would prove fatal for the insurgents. On March 29, 1851 their army dissolved.

Interestingly, this helmet appears to be a nice piece of history, which emphasizes one of the underlying reasons of this beautiful hobby.

Amazing what turns up, isn't it? I believe somebody on ebay had a pattern 1842 with the line infantry plate a while back, but the cockades for this type...

I would imagine that somebody followed the plate indent in the helmet and painted it either as a reference of for fun. I like the spike / base on this.
