3. Thuringisches Infanterie Regiment (Nr. 71) Pickelhaube

Hello,

Here's one I picked up recently from a more unusual regiment to find.

Nicely issue stamped: "3 Th.J.R. 71" on back visor. But unfortunately there is No Battalion Stamping. :(

1914 dated on rear visor and inside, with Maury & Co. maker mark, and a nice size "58" marking as well.

Came with an original chinstrap that has flaking to the surface finish.

Unfortunately no kokardes were with the helmet.

Jim Turinetti's book "Imperial German Headgear (1884-1914) Field Guide" shows the 2nd & 3rd Battalion's being stationed at Erfurt, and wearing Prussian Kokardes. The 1st Battalion was stationed at Sonderhausen, and wore the White with Blue Stripe Kokarde for Sonderhausen.

Best Regards,

Alan

Giving up trying to post photos for now. This is a real hassle and problem when it is not taking the photos after I've edited them for size...

Finished with all photos that I had to post.

Not sure what happened with my first attempt. Will go in and try to edit the first post.

Thanks,

Alan

Hi Steve,

Thanks for wondering about the photos. Sorry that it's messy with some extra photos. I can't seem to edit them out.

It was sure nice to meet you in person at the S.O.S.! Thanks for taking time to visit with me!

Best Regards,

Alan

Alan,

When you get it sorted out I would like to get a clean picture of the marking for the list. We have three different examples of JR 71 but none of them similar to what you are describing. The pictures you have put up are not usable and I know you are working on it. Seems like a wonderful find!

Thanks for taking the time to look at the helmet, and for your very nice comments gentlemen, I appreciate it! :D

Joe: I'll shoot some better photos of the marking after the weekend.

Best Regards,

Alan

Alan ; Nice to meet you at the S O S .I think it is just great to meet fellow collectors . That's a big part of the fun .Over the years I have made friends with collectors all over the USA and in Canada and Europe .If you ever get down this way , please stop by for a visit and some "show & tell " Steve McFarland

Many thanks for your nice comments Edwin, Steve, and Ron, I appreciate it!

By member Edwin: Will you complete it by adding original kokarden?

Thanks Edwin, yes, I'll complete it with original kokarden. I'm currently in need of a good National kokarde, as I've used up my last ones I had a while back on helmets that were missing kokardes. I have a nice Prussian kokarde that I could put on this helmet since there is not any Battalion Marking in the helmet. I'd love to find an original Schwarzburg kokarde to put on it.

It would be a real privilege to visit you and see your fabulous collection in person Steve!

Best Regards.

Alan

I'll attach another unit mark photo for Joe. Hopefully this one will work out o.k. to add to the list.

Can u guys put pics of Yr collection up for viewing pleasure. I am always thrilled to look at collection.
