4. Lothringisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr.136 wappen

Now these are the things I like to love! This is very similar to

Despite all the police helmets this Landwehr guy just sort of sneaks in and is nowhere near Thuringia. Are you sure that your guy is from the active Regiment?

No Joe - rarely am I sure of anything when I post on here. I just tapped in the I.R. 136 title as a starting point for the discussion, after I established the regiment's hometown was Straßburg i. E. and that's where the card was sent from etc. There has to be a nexus somewhere.

Looking at the guy you would think he's Landwehr, esp. in Jan 1916 when the active regiments hadn't really begun to draw on the older guys to fill their ranks. But that helmet really threw me.

NB: That Lebel, surely it has to be the photographer's prop. It looks as if it might have been used my Moses.

If the parent regiment's home town is Straßburg, does this mean the Reserve-Regiment hails from there as well?

Further to my last, the photo was actually taken in Müllheim, about a 120km south of Straßburg :-k

No. The numbers do not even need to be connected. They can be such as JR 94 or they cannot be such as my example which deals with JR 38 from Glatz.

The reserve regiment does not come from the same place.
Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 38
Aufgestellt in Breslau (R.Stb., II., III.) und Oels (I.)

And the Landwehr Regiment comes back around only in part.
Landwehr-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 38
Aufgestellt in Schweidnitz (R.Stb., I., II.) und Glatz (III.)

Now none of this seems to help JR 136. There was only one replacement Battalion at the time the picture was taken and it is Straussburg.

It does not appear that there was a reserve nor a Landwehr unit with this number. I do have the regimental history so I must dig a little here. :read2: :read2: :la: :dontknow:
