I didn't even have to bother translating the decription...I can already imagine it reads... " Antique Prussian helmet found in the attic of a barn"

At any rate lets pick this helmet apart shall we...

1) Helmet configuration is wrong. Officer Wappen and Spike on a EM shell.

2) Chinscales do not looked to be attached with the correct knobs. They should be knurled and quite prominent.

3) Cockades are wrong. No Saxon Cockade.

4) I have yet to see a pointy fingered liner in a Kurassier helmet.

5) Shell is painted green on the neckguard. Should be black and matte.

6) Finally...the helmet has the most awful attempt to fake age I have ever seen. The top of the helmet by the spike is rusted but the yet there the clover leaves are pristine and some of the parts of the helmets are shining.

Please feel free to add your opinion to this monstrosity so that others may learn.

I take it you're not bidding then John? :joker:

I had one of my helmets show up on German ebay with the BS "found in Oma's Dachboden" story told in great detail. Oma's Dachboden must have been at my place! I cannot believe the audacity of these criminals. :angry4:

The mud in what looks to be hand applied is just the touch .The shape of the front visor is also not on .This looks stranely like repro's that are on ebay everywhere . They go for low $ dollar amounts .
I gotta check my own attic .I might find dear old uncle Luise 's war trophies
Mark

Do I detect a trend?

C'mon Tony...you know I was sniping this helmet :laughing2:

If I could get my hands on one of these clowns, I would gladly post a follow up to the " Helmets run over by a tank" photos with a "Thiefs hands run over by a tank" shot.

Best thing we can do is keep doing what we have been doing. Keep a sharp eye out and post those fakes and why you think they are fakes. Our best defense is a well educated community.

I second John's words, and "goofbay" is a tremendous resource for investigating the egregious sellers. Even if their auctions and feedback are private, goofbay breaks through the barriers. Give it a try:

WOW Chas, that is a great site, it is good to see that none of the members is bidding on this item.

Hi Gus:

Donna discovered goofbay a while back, and I understand it was originally even more comprehensive. Since then, eBay has been making it increasingly difficult to access data like this.

It might be useful to post the link as a sticky whereby all the members can access goofbay readily.

Best regards,

Chas.
