Gotcha!

Here's one you don't see every day, a Bavarian mountain infantry cap with Edelweiß.

Chas,

I'm curious about the regimental marking. The Bavarian 16th Res.Inf.Rgt. was not a mountain unit and did not serve in the Alpenkorps. It spent the entire war on the Western Front. It makes you wonder.

Is there something here that I am not seeing?

Hi Chip:

Sorry for the delay in my reply. I hadn't noticed anyone commented on the cap until today. The other ink stamp inside the Mütze is for a Landshut manufacturer (this would jibe with the garrison for IR 16 at least).

As to whether the Edelweiß is appropriate may be questionable, but it came with the cap and appears to have been there "forever."

Otherwise, I have no ready explanation.

Chas.
