A nice helmet came visiting for dinner

Amazing! 1842 pattern? That wappen is phenomenal but the entire helme is in fantastic condition.

Those older helmets are not my area of collecting, but I really appreciate these. This helmet is in really good condition and that's a miracle on its own =D> .
On the other hand, it's just too bad that it's polished too much and every bit of patina is gone... For me that is distracting because the shiny parts don't match the rest of the helmet anymore. I guess that's just me again... perhaps that's why I don't collect the older types :-k ...
Anyway, it's a fantastic helmet!

That's quite an interesting philosophical difference. To polish or not to polish. This collector does and in mass looks pretty darn good. I don't maybe I'm just too lazy. :-k

Ha yes ,every now and then the polish question arises.
I’m not in favor of polishing officer helmets, but I think it is reasonable to make an exception for these antiques which have more than 150 years on the counter, to find one in its original state is pretty difficult.
Try finding any object of that age which is untouched, the only way would be that it always remained in the original possessor’s family.
