Hey guys. I bought this helmet a few years practically on a whim. I was on a guards helmet kick back then and thought I found a gem. Unfortunately at the time I was going at collecting alone and had little actual knowledge about what to look out for when collecting for helmets in general (I was young and reckless).
Upon receiving it, I had to wipe down what was most likely wd-40 that covered the outside. This helmet has seen multiple layers of paint on it and has been stripped by this to point in a few spots, the bare metal is showing. The pins are replacements and so I assumed the liner was also a replacement. But to me, what I felt was the finishing blow was how the emblem looked. First, I feel like this was painted over all the other paints this helmet has gone through. Second, the paint to me just looked off compared to other guards helmets that I’ve seen. I don’t know how much the wd has effected the paint, but I’ve not seen other guards emblems looking this thin, as oppose to having a more flaky look to it. I really believed I just bought a fraud
I’ve sort of hidden this in a corner of my collection and just chalked this up to a learning experience. I’ve not sold this off so as not to seen as trying to swindle a buyer. But I’ve never really gotten a proper validation of this being fake or potentially authentic. Any input is most appreciated!
