An unknown 19th century cavalry helmet ... French or not?

Hello folks,

I was wondering on your opinion of this helmet (pics attached). It was bought in the early 70s, so before the massive influx of fakes. The tuft (if that's what you call it) appears to be original, displaying a cleaner fur on the inner lip where it is attached.

A very rustic liner is sewn on (it had to be resewn due to degrading thread) of a coarse linen or jute fabric on which is written in faded ink "Don Hosé". This led me to think it might be Spanish (rather than French which it resembles most in shape and style), but of course it might have belonged to Donald Hose  .

Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Dave

I am thinking of a time piece, but rather a theatre prop!
Defenetly not French, the visor being to pointy.
