Another 1891 Reserve Officers Helmet

Another helmet form the "bag O helmets". I believe this to be a reserve officers helmet due to the cross on the front of the crest. It is more substantial/higher quality than the others. NO idea why the leather patch on top and of course the screws are wrong.

Yep, the visor is missing and on the one side the threads let loose, kind of rough but still cool.

Comments and opinions appreciated.

Thanks, I really like the crest and the chin straps are still very nice and flexible.

Looks good on the mantel for now.

This has two characteristics of what collectors were doing to helmets in the 1960's and 70's (see posting..The Haube World in 1978) The author of the article contained in that post, recommends tack stitching loose visors by hand....that rear visor has been tack stitched on. He also mentions that some collectors were making support discs out of sheet metal, well someone has cut leather to support this spike. You can see (marks on inside leather) that this originally had 4 tin washers for the stars.

NP Jim....just popped into my head that perhaps the leather was put there because of the length of slot bolts they used for the spike base???
