Here are two possible contenders to fulfill my quest to find an m15.

<p>For sale is a original and fairly scarce WW1 m15 pattern Pickelhaube spike helmet from Baden. Overall in fair to good condition, front brim is partially unstitched. Spike is intact, just needs cockades and chinstrap to finish off. </p>

The second one has brown residue or something on the patina

Patience is a virtue, and in this hobby doubly so. Both of these helmets are real but, neither is in a condition that will have you feeling good about the purchase later on.

The Baden helmet looks to have had some very poor quality re-stitching done that would have to be re-done by someone like Brian who knows what they're doing. The Prussian helmet looks to have problems with the visors as well.

I would pass on both. A good one will show up and although you may have to pay a bit more in the long term you'll be much more satisfied.

I learned from my collecting mentor many years ago, "Never buy anything that you'll have to make excuses for when you want to sell it".
