This is a new pickup. This is a helmet from the Artist Rifles. This was a British militia that was made up of painters, writers and journalists. Noel Coward was among the more famous members of the regiment.

That is a Very nice one. Were they part of the Corp's of Guides? Military Inteligence unit's are really interesting.

No, they were a Volunteer Rifles regiment. They took part in the Boer War and in WWI. At the start of the war Field Marshal French asked the commander of the Regiment to provide a list of 50 other ranks and promote them to officers!

The unit went onto be an officer training unit in WWII and afterward became the 22nd Special Air Service.
 
I have seen Photo's of Head stone in WW1 Commenwealth Cemetaries and alway's wondered about this unit. Thank's for the pic's and the info .
