Authentic Pickelhaube?

Hello everyone,
I would like to know if the helmet being shown is authentic or not because it has the front plate of the old style FRW and below has the slogan Colberg 1807 but i want to know whether this is 100% real

You came to the right place. Also, look into reference books, look at 'spikes' at shows and in museums, study the photos on this forum and after a while, you'll get better at spotting fakes. The misfit back spine, plate and poor job on the spike and star studs were dead give-aways, sometimes the spike is the wrong shape too, so develop that eye for real deal. Some of the fakes are pretty good.

My first Pickelhaube was a horrible fake, my second a real score, why? because I bought some good books and joined this forum. Study good references, look at examples on this site and soon enough you will be able to look at most helmets in one short glance and know that its a fake.

LOL! Yes, my first was an original, but in horrible condition when it arrived in the mail (and the customs procedure was a mess, so I kept it), so I think we're in the same boat! Nothing will get you to a library, show or other collectors faster than getting ripped off. :)
