Anyone ever seen a picture of a Stahlem on backwards? This illustration is interesting and I wonder if it was intentional.

Hi Bill,
I have seen a photo of some soldiers with at least on with his helmet on backwards, I believe that they were Austrian and having a good time, the first thought when seeing this illustration was that the illustrator had seen Italian Farino helmets as they look like there are on backward with most of the protection in the front. It is very likely that this drawing was made from a photo, I have several period publications where one might find a photo in one, but a drawing of the same view in another, the artist often compresses the action to improve the illustration, but usually the content is not modifyed. I would guess that if this was taken from a photo, the soldier with the reversed Stahlhelm, did so for extra protection from the front, or to show that he was not a threat. To sum this up briefly "I don't know"
Gus
