Picked this up at the Max show last year.

Overall quite nice condition Sr. NCO / Unteroffizier mit Portepee with a bit warping that hopefully should correct itself as it is now on one of Skipper Greenwades helmet stand/shapers

Still learning here and often struggle trying to self identify a) what model of haube well as b) trying to id what unit could have worn it.

I was told at purchase that this was as a M1871/1899 helmet and was for the Baden 14th Field/Foot Artillery Regiment.

But like most collectors I enjoy doing the research and verify for myself.

1) So, is this an 1871/1899? It looks like an M1897 based on what little I know.

2) My reference materials are some what limited. In this case I'm using Turinetti/O'Connor's Field Gear guide. I'm having a hard time trying to determine what unit it was actually for. It appears that the 14th (1st Baden), 30th (2nd Baden), 50th (3rd Baden), 66th (4th Baden) and 76th (6th Baden) all seem to show that there were no differences in the helmets / scales / wappens between each unit. Now, I know I can count out the 3rd, 4th and 6th as these were not in existence when this helmet was used. But that still leave me the 1st or 2nd.

And lastly, are these the correct chin scales? They look flat. They they not be arched?

Thanks for any feedback.

Regards,

Michael

Thanks all. I got this from Randy. It's pretty much back to its original shape. It looks much better in hand too.

I have a Beamte in the mail that I should get on Monday. Thanks to the USPS it's been sitting in a distribution center for three days doing nothing... :(. Looking fwd to posting it for feedback.
