Baltimore Antique Arms Show is Canceled

They closed the County I live in until further notice, no schools, no theaters, no gatherings.

Hello,

They called off the 61st annual Wells, Minnesota gun show today that was scheduled for this weekend, in south-central MN, about 30 minutes from where my parents live.

The local Wal-Mart and one of the grocery stores in town had their entire toilet paper aisle entirely emptied out today, as well as hand sanitizer, and the clorox wipes, etc. All gone, empty shelves where those products used to be. Even certain types of non-perishable food items were blown out and gone at Wal-Mart today when I was in the store. This is in a town of 25K population.

My friends are still having the small military show in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday (Tomorrow, the 14th). I cancelled out, because my wife is on a prescription inhibitor that puts her in the high risk category if she would get the virus. It's not worth me taking the risk, even though there are only 14 confirmed cases in the entire state of Iowa right now, with all of them being quarantined. I'll probably have to skip another small military show the first weekend in April, and the bigger Minnesota Military Collector show at the MN State Fairgrounds the weekend of April 18th.

Best Regards,

Alan

I think we are just seeing the beginning of cancellations, sad but get it.

Toilet paper was wiped out in my area as well yesterday, but stores had fully stocked shelves today, so all is good.

Well I am happy to post toilet paper to anyone who needs it.

We have plenty here for now. Masks, 70% alcohol, sanitiser, wipes, alcohol swabs etc are all out but one can get it on a local selling platform if you are willing to pay the price.

Last week, just mailed a box of quality masks (50pcs) to a collector in USA. so anyone needs help, do let me know. I can mail masks and toilet paper out but no liquid allowed to be mailed out (restricted by our govt). Masks is restricted to 1-2 boxes i think.

In Feb, we have panic buying of canned food, rice, pasta, toilet papers, paper towels etc when the govt raised to Code Orange which basically means big gathering to be cancelled, temperature check to be in place etc. A week after, all back to normal but masks, sanisers etc are still not available.

Back in the old days people saved their Sears & Roebuck catalogs .
Slick pages , but thick catalog .they kept them in the "out houses ".
I grew up in the country .

What is with this huge toilette paper scare??? Have I missed out on something on FaceBook??? Does all the world's' TP now come from China like everything else?? WTF? BTW I never go on FB other than to post Band gigs, I have no intention of telling the world what I am up to....Never! :thumb up:
According to my son TP is also absent from Walmart shelves at home so this "herd reaction" is on both sides of the border.
Steve, my grandparents had a two holer but by the time I used it in the late 50's they had graduated to TP but I heard stories of the Sears catalogue even back then. No surprise about the Baltimore Show I guess, I just hope that maybe the SOS can be saved down the road.

Well, I went for my weekly shopping here, but here almost no TP is found, nor canned vegetables or other foodstuffs which are long term holdable.
Things are getting out of hands with this Corona virus. By the way, I got sent back home 2 day's ago, because I have the flu, and cough's.
They don't take risks at my work so I'm home now, untill fever gets over.

Things are getting crazy...

Newspapers used to be an option, but I get mine online, which isn’t much help!

I was told today that the panic buying of toilet paper (which we also have in UK) originated with a journalist in Australia who wanted to see how quickly a fake news story could be spread, and he chose to write about shortage of toilet paper supplies. I have no idea if this is true but it makes as much sense as any other explanation.

‘Keep calm and carry on’, as the WW2 posters in Britain used to say!

Patrick

Exactly Patrick,

Keep calm, and carry on. But nowaday's you can see how people still get influenced, and do not think reasonable anymore.
They just go with the flow. This morning, when I went shopping normally there are 3 people there, now, there were about 36..
And they filled their carts like crazy..as if WW3 just started.

:) Keep calm, and carry on!

Greetings, Coert. :thumb up:

Other famous responses...."don't get your knickers in a knot" "keep yer powder dry". I am certain we will see many other funny things before this is over.

Same hysteria down there in North Germany....
No TP, nuddles or canned goods... ](*,)
Companies are sending most of their people to home office. I am one of the last in the regular office of my company. 90% of other colleagues are now home...

Good God closing the Liquor Stores??? Internal alcohol consumption is always my first line of defence against any kind of virus!!! I mean, hand sanitizer is 70% alcohol based, so my method makes complete sense!! I am just internalizing the alcohol! :D BTW, as a High School teacher of 37 years, I am firmly convinced that I have encountered every bacillus known to mankind. However, the Chinese may have come up with a new one. Anyway, let us all be careful during this time of stress. If you are sent home from the office or self distancing....selfishly speaking, you could spend more time on this forum engaged in something positive.....sharing your collections with the rest of us. Another suggestion...if you have some spare time as a result of this, please go back into old posts and replace photos destroyed by the PhotoBucket Tsunami. This militaria hobby has always been a positive in our lives and we can use it again at this time of some uncertainty. :thumb up: To all!

Just pay for postage and I think you will need to hold your sh*t for two weeks for TP to arrive anywhere :D

Essential service in my mind. Especially if we are going to be very soon in lock down. And I agree Brian, every time I have been ill (pneumonia twice in the Army) I found wine and whiskey very helpful :drunken:

Yes that happened.

Nicely put. This is not the time to shut down when we are barricaded in out homes. On-line is what we have for a while, so interesting postings would be helpful. I withdrew last year and I'll try to contribute more. Tony

Thanks T, much appreciated, and above all, :) you have a collection which could keep us all occupied with examples for weeks! My wife and I have returned to Canada and are going to self quarantine for some time. We don't have any symptoms and there were no known cases in our part of Florida but it is our civic duty to do our part. We had absolutely no problem crossing back into CN today, we were not even asked if we had been on a cruise ship. Thank God we did not get into cruising!

Well I went to the Dermo doctor today .His waiting room is always full .Today 3 people counting myself .
I have no fear of a doctor visit .After that I went to my favorite liquor store and bought 3 cases of white
wine ; 2 half gallons of Wild Turkey proof 101 and 2 fifth's of Jack Daniels single barrel , barrel proof 151
( Tony you would like that ) so I am stocked up for 1 month
No NCAA basketball so we had 4 free nights lined up at the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel on the Gulf Coast
Biloxi, Miss. I got an email today form the H R C . The State of Miss. has closed all the casinos .
that was for March 26 so that trip is now off
