Good evening gentlemen,

I picked up a group helmets recently and was debating fixing this one up I thought I'd show it here first. It has most if its parts however the spike base is interesting because it seems much smaller and different in construction that any other M15s I have seen, the front visor is also completely detached and the shell is pretty dry/ misshapen. I'd love to hear everyone's opinion on this piece, I might even consider letting this one go as I have a few projects already

Is there anyone by chance who would be willing to take this project and restore it to its former glory? I don't know that I'll be able to do this one myself.

I like a good challenge but I'm currently restoring 2 officer helmets, so I think Brian or Woytek are your best bet.

Well gentlemen seeing as how I've had some spare time on my hands as of late I was able to make a fair amount of progress on this one afterall.
I disassembled the helmet and cleaned up the leather a little and have reshaped the skull. I hated to cut the original stitching but unfortunately there wasn't any other option aside from let it sit and deteriorate more. Unfortunately during the reshaping the side of the helmet did split a little but once I start sewing it back together the stitches should hold the two pieces together well.

There is also still some very heavy staining on the inside but I do not think it's possible for that to be removed, at least the unit mark is still clear.

I have to applaud 👏 your efforts.

Without your efforts this guy had no chance and would have been lost to the destructive hand of Father Time .
Thank you very much! I was very hesitant to start this one since it clearly sat in an attic or basement and received lots of water and heat damage.

I'm glad you did, will definitely be following this one (y)

Does anyone have any ideas for what to do with the cracking/ crazing and staining in the shell by chance? Otherwise I'll begin sewing the liner and visors back on today.

Looking closely its strange how the black is all around the unit markings but not on them or under them. Almost like the unit markings have some kind of forcefield.

Wonder how that happened?
