Bavarian Day -- Photo Shoot

I decided to group some of my Bavarian pieces together as I not only collect Pickelhauben, but also items related to specific regiments and including headgear and uniforms. Generally, I also display related items together in my cabinets. Bavaria is one of my favorite regions of Germany and have spent quite a bit of time there over the years. I am particularly interested in Kgl. Bayr. 2. Infanterie-Regiment Kronprinz. That unit was formed in 1682, which is quite remarkable, and garrisoned in Munich.

In the photo you will see a boxed pair of Leutnant epauletten for that Regiment as well as two single shoulder boards. The General der Infanterie shoulder board belonged to Kronprinz Rupprecht, who was Inhaber to the Regiment. I do not collect single boards but occasionally have had to make an exception. I would love to know where the other shoulder board is today.

The Reservist stein is also for that Regiment and the General's Pickelhaube complements the display nicely. The other Pickelhaube is for a Feldartillerie officer with the convex chinscales.

I also have an interest in Artillerie and the Waffenrock is for a Leutnant in Bayr. 10. Feldartillerie-Regiment. This was a relatively new Regiment formed in 1901 and garrisoned in Erlangen. Way in the back you can see a tailored and named Friedensrock a Gefreiter Bayr. 5. Feldartillerie-Regiment Konig Alfons XIII von Spanien. It was formed in 1890 and garrisoned in Landau. This regiment did not have a cypher but only the number "5" on the shoulder straps. It features a private purchase Schutzenschnur in beautiful Bavarian colors. This young soldier survived the war and became a Reserve Leutnant in 1922. I would imagine he may have seen WWII service but have not followed up on that yet.

In the other photo, I feature a Prussian Feldartillerie Officer's Pickelhaube along with a Meissen plate commemorating the 1. Posensches Feldartillerie-Regiment Nr. 20. As you can see, it was formed in 1892 and disbanded in 1919. The Regiment did not have a cypher but the "FAR" on the plate substitutes for one to make it more appealing.

While I am not sure this fits in "Latest Find" forum though the plate came last week.
