Very tough to tell if the example you post, Amy, has a brass or the typical steel body. Is it yours? Are there any spots of exposed metal?

I have a similar example of a brass body ersatz helmet in my collection and by closer look it has al the same features like amy's helmet
Only mine is lost his cloch liner inside but mine is named on the back stating E. BÖTTCHER II/38
mine is also a pruisian one
There not easy to find

Hi Arran,
Yes it's mine. and it has steel body with brass fittings. Just that the previous owner or before him, put a felt at the underside of the helmet body. Exterior is all exposed metal.

Many of these came with a felt skull cap Amy to protect the top of the head from the metal.

The inner felt is not completely sticking to the metal haube, so I lifted it and use my finger to dust across the body to reveal more of the metal surface. Then I found a Grenadier one too.
