I came across these studs on one of the helmets that came in two months ago.

I reckon they are reproduction, what do you guys think?

I didn't think it's authentic too. The shape just not right but there again, anything is possible with pickelhaubes.

Sorry for the late reply, was held up by work.
Ok, here's the picture of the mounting near the dome-headed stud.
The way the prongs are shaped, and the way that these prongs are mounted near the dome-headed stud, a no no for me. [-X

In all my years of working on hauben, I have never seen tapered ends on split brads like these ones.

well that makes them really "rare" right LOL

They came in together with a nice helmet and I have original brads and while taking these tapered ones off, two of them broke (I think).

I'm sorry that I am late to this party. I don't know how I missed this.
I have seen studs with tapered ends, but they are usually roughly done and tapered only on one side or slightly on both.
They don't seem to match evenly or look to be manufactured that way. Perhaps just a modification for misaligned holes?

Looking at the ones you have I would agree that they are not quite right.
The brass also looks thin.

John :)
