The title isn't an instruction , i am going there for 4 days over xmas.

What recommendations do you guys have , if any , to pay a visit to with reference to our hobby or ww1 or 2 in general.

Many thanks , Woz

I could write page after page after page about what to see and do in Berlin. I absolutely love Berlin. As your only there for four days, you really have to go on a guided English bus tour to start, as it will point out many of the major historical sites. Then are things you must see, such as:

Reichstag
Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church
Berlin Cathedral (make sure you see the catacombs)
Brandenburg Gate
Soviet War Memorial
Potsdamer Palace
Potsdamer Platz Christmas Market
Berlin Zoo (if you have time)
Walk around with a beer from a Kiosk. Like everywhere. With a beer.

Of course there is Sachsenhausen concentration camp close by. But any normal human should be deeply disturbed and mortified by seeing that. So best to leave that for a longer visit.

Additional to Tony you could visit the New Parlais. There is an exhibition named „Kaiserliche Weihnachten“ (imperial christmas). Unfortunately you missed the exhibition „Kaiserdämmerung“ which ends today. It was about the last day of Wilhelm II. in the New Parlais and there were a lot of his personell exhibits from „Doorn“ to see.
Don‘t miss Sansoucci at all and bring some potatoes to the tomb of Frederick the great ;)
The „Deutsche historische Museum“ in the old „Zeughaus Berlin“ (Armory) is also interessting. It‘s about the 1500 years of german history from middle-age to the fall of the wall.
But Berlin is never boring, it is so much to see. Same like Tony, it is one of my favorit City, too.

Whenever I fly into Berlin I spend most of the time in Potsdam, with day trips to Berlin. Some of the sights mentioned above are in Potsdam, so I would recommend at least a day trip there. About 35 kms away. They have recently rebuilt the Stadt Schloss and the alter Markt. Many of the Garde barracks can be seen as well, etc.

Obviously, some of the sights in Berlin mentioned above are worthy (and a priority) of being seen on a first time trip there. It takes time to see all the sights and museums. A quick trip to Postdam will give you a less touristy atmosphere, and will give you an idea of which you might prefer. In case you plan a return trip.

Zitadelle Spandau has a nice museum, but as it is about 15 kms west of the center of Berlin, might be tough to add to your itinerary. It had some nice Imperial, and earlier, headgear and firearms. Was only there once, but I added it to our recent trip as a good place to spend the last night before flying back.
