British Sun Helmet

I was hoping someone could help me figure out this sun helmet. Is it WW1 or WW2? The markings are almost faded and hard to read. I have nothing else to go on. Thanks

Hi

This helmet is of the WW1 period, or shortly before or after. The interior and esp. the cork spacers give it away. It has been blancoed and worn without a puggaree, which may have been done for wear in India.

Best wishes,

S.

It appears to be a Wolseley helmet that has been around for sure. I would agree it is probably earlier than later. Who could say when it received the final coat of blanco. The Royal Navy used white helmets but typically with the puggaree with a blue strip in the cloth. But I wouldn't rule out a naval used one.

Any stamps on the inside? I had to go through my sources, but based on the shape and the liner I wonder if this one is Canadian made?

Is there a small round makers ink stamp on the inside by chance?

No luck with stamps. There is a spot where something was stamped but long since gone. I tried in different light but no way to read it.
