Brunswick Hussar Regiment Nr. 17

I have a soft spot for Braunschweigisches Husaren-Regt. Nr.17, and keep an eye out for images of hussars in their cloth caps - some examples below.

The first is pre-1897, with only the single state cockade on his mütze. The second is probably from around 1900, with the pre-1905 nickel plated KD89 scabbard (interestingly, with the two rings technically abolished in 1895 – but seems to have persisted for some time after).

The third and fourth are both from the same Brunswick studio of Wilhelm Kleinschmidt, and show the post-1905 blackened scabbard and more modern form of the tellermütze.

I wanted to show some of my former H R 17 displays
including some of the hats .
The reserve officer is one of the nicest hats that I ever owned
I also had an e m feldgrau cap but I can't find the photo
It was super .I sold it to a collector out in Calif
Years later he sold his collection
Jason B. was the buyer and was buying for Helmut Weitze
I contacted Weitze to try and buy the cap back
but Weitze told me that it was the first thing sold out of the collection
I wonder where it is today ?

Gorgeous Steve - thanks for sharing! (I'm pretty sure the NCO visor is the one that ended up in my collection!)

Beautiful photos and thus a great contribution to a traditional and proud cavalry regiment!
Thanks to everyone for showing….
