And some messing with different parts on the EM ,w/ is probably a repro helmet made to look old.
100% originaler Dachbodenfund my ass !

Gruesome, agreed, but I did spot something interesting.

I've not seen that kind of clasp on the officer's chinscales before.

Is this a genuine but uncommon clasp, or further evidence of a badly researched fake?

Also never seen that before ,I think the whole chinscale-strap came from somewhere else, probably not military, the scales are gaping an awful lot.

Pretty awful. Somebody bent those scales outward, so the segments are bent at the staple. I've never seen a clasp like that and wouldn't have thought it to be original... looks like something granny would use to hold her collar together. 30 bids so far. oy.

I just noticed that the tip of each spike is either distorted or silver. Seems to me I remember something like this happening to electro-plated objects. :-k =;

The chin scales stick out like that because they are too small for the helmet and thus are not original. to this piece. Anytime you see that "porcupine" look as I call it, you have replacement scales. The round brass button is not some sort of "exception to the rules" in my HO, just another part of the "fake". Its dorky and does not work......think,...you are in the field and want to put your chin scales down...the normal way works perfectly.......this NOT ??????

I agree the scales may not be original to the helmet and will bow to your expertise on this, BUT, if you look at the bottom photo, right side of the helmet, it's very clear that they've been bent outward at the staple and hence look 'porcupined' (which is indeed a good term!). That 'clasp' might even be a bit of upholstery hardware or similar... it's hard to tell.

In the end, does it really matter? The helmet is no good... except to whoever bought it. ](*,)
