Hello . I want to show my work on the hussar hat. This is not quite a restoration of the subject, but rather a reconstruction of the Hussar Pelzmüce. Material used only natural. linen, leather, seal or fur

Sergei....you made this piece? Or you restored it?? Awesome work either way!
I did this completely myself. Buying a hussar hat is simply expensive for me. Even in poor condition, they are very rare. I decided to sew myself

Pardon me if I may sound too offensive.

Wouldn't one call this re-work a fake?

Well, did I write somewhere that this is the original? This is a reproduction. If I sold this thing giving it away as the original, it would be fake and fraud. And so I just made a reproduction, well, for example, for the reconstruction of the First World War

I certainly agree. It is not a fake. It is a beautiful reproduction that has not been presented as an original. What a fantastic demonstration of a set of skills that few possess. I am in awe Sergei1877.

Thank you for understanding

I always thought enlisted busbies were never copied from scratch. The authenticity of these items is never doubtful (that is, the body, because fur and metal fittings have been of course frequently changed).
Then I saw your creation. This is amazing! A tour de force. I am admirative. From a black and white picture I would not have been able to tell the difference from an original...

Reproduction is perhaps the most miss used word with collectors. A true reproduction would be something made by the original maker using the original tools for an item that had gone out of production earlier. When I worked in the auto industry and we would run service parts for previous models, these would be reproduction (going back into production again).

With that said it is a beautiful reproduction you made.:)

Sergei, you have, with your own skills made a beautiful busby.
I have seen ugly replica's being sold on Ebay, which don't even come close to your skills..
Outstanding quality, :)

:bravo:

When I started this hobby, my aim was to preserve history.

We all guard our collection well so as not to allow any fakes that flow into our collection.

I do have to say that it is amazing skill but my first reaction was - if this item flow into the market as original then our line of defence is down.

I admire great restoration skill but to go to the extent of making it with the unit stamping and unarguably with a good set of skills, I couldn't agree with it.

Just my two cents worth

You are right Amy, the stamp is not necessary and maybe too much. But I can understand Sergei, when I would restore something or try to copy it I would also do everything to make this object look like original. Just for me because I'm proud of it
It is all about the further way to handle it. Sergei won‘t sell it as an original and it therefor won’t get into the market, so it‘s ok for me. In the hands of a honorable restorer or collector skills like this are worth a lot =D>

Sergei might not, but someone else down the line might try to.

Keep up the good work Sergie!

Fully agree, someone is doing it and unfortunately we can‘t avoid it
