CAVALRY HELMET

Was offered the following helmet and was told it was a rare office piece.
I haven't done much research on it but turned the offer down as at least 2 things were wrong, liner was wrong, removable spike was wrong.

Hi Amy,

Thanks for posting this. I'm glad to hear that you are questioning this helmet.

The helmet is a standard Enlisted pattern Kurassier helmet.

And yes, you are correct: the spike is not an enlisted Kurassier spike, but instead it is a standard infantry enlisted spike as of course you realize.

Was the exterior of the helmet chromed, or just highly polished? If the helmet has a brass eagle and a brass spike base as seen in the photos, the metal trim around the edge of the helmet and the domed rivets should all be brass color. Seeing that these parts are shiny white metal leads me to believe the exterior of the helmet was chromed at one point of time.

The chinstrap side post mounts are also the M15 Wartime Kurassier Gray Metal.

Looks like this helmet is an assembly of wartime and pre-war parts, and the exterior of the helmet has been chromed.

Best Wishes,

Alan

Another transgenic helmet. The liner seems to be correct for an M15 though, but the picture is minuscule. Would you have a normally sized one? Surprisingly, amidst all these flaws and more (wrong cockades, of course), the eagle is of the correct Kurassier type.
Out of curiosity, how much did they ask for this thing?..
Good luck;

You´ve done the best, Amy, by going your way with this "Frankenstein helmet"...A little bit of this, a little bit of that.... ](*,) 8-[

Amy,

Ditto to everyone who commented on the helmet. If you showed me this helmet in person I would break out in song... specifically...

A Flock Of Seagulls

I ran (so far away)

Lyrics:

And I ran
I ran so far away
I just ran
I ran all night and day
I couldn't get away

John

LOL @ John, you make sure you don't trip over and are you sure you can run all night and day? ?

Philippe, I know Halloween is tmr but I don't need a Frankenstein helmet LOL.

That helmet looks to be badly rust and someone without knowing the basic restored it and then it went into a collector's hand who is selling his collection away and he termed this as a rare officer piece. If I am the not so smart one(still not very smart now though LOL), I will also think it is rare, cos you don't see such combination on a helmet.
